Pressure is on Gers — Rodgers

-

C E LT I C b o s s B r e n d a n Rodgers believes the pressure is firmly on Rangers going into Sunday’s Old Firm derby at Ibrox.

The Northern Irishman has not lost in eight matches against the Light Blues since he took over at Parkhead in 2016 and has won three out of three in Govan.

Celtic sit six points clear of their old rivals at the top of the Premiership with a game in hand, as they look to secure their second successive domestic treble.

Following their 3-0 win over Morton in the Scottish Cup quarter-final last week, Rodgers’ squad has enjoyed a rare free week to prepare for the game against Rangers, who have grown in confidence with recent form, having lost only once in 12 games.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do and we’ll need to perform better and more consistently in that game,” Rodgers said.

“But we’ve gone there three ti mes before and performed very well.

“There’s huge pressure on Rangers in the game but, for us, we’ll have a good working week and go into that game and work as well as we can.

“Having a f ull week’s preparation will make a big difference. The objective on Saturday was to get the game done and get through to the semi-final.

“It will be a tough game for us at Ibrox, of course.

“They’ve got a bit more spirit, from what I see, and they’ve probably found a consistency. They’ll feel this little bit of pressure in the game because it’s a game they have to win.”
