Top players coach Dundee kids

- BY CALUM WOODGER

YOUTH club Dundee Rugby are set to welcome top professionals from Edinburgh Rugby to their training session tonight.

Dundee Rugby, which merged Dundee Wasps, Eagles and Carnoustie in 2016, will welcome the likes of Scotland international John Hardie from the Pro14 side to pass on their expertise and skills.

Sevens star Damien Hoyland, prop Elliot Millar-Mills, Jaco van der Walt and Callum McLelland will also be in attendance.

The players will train youngsters from S1 to U/18 level at the Morgan Rugby Club pitch from 6pm.

JONNY Gray admits the current campaign has been a disappointing one for Scotland ahead of this weekend’s NatWest 6 Nations finale in Rome.

Gregor Townsend’s squad travel to Italy looking to finish off a frustrating tournament with a third win and a first on the road.

Much was expected of Scotland and they were tipped as winners of the title after an impressive autumn series — but they’ve struggled for consistency.

There have been highlights, such as the win over England two weeks ago, but it is a sign of how far this squad have come that they will remain disappointed even if they win on Saturday in Rome.

“There have been a lot of positives so far but a lot of things we’re disappointed with,” said Gray. “Obviously the two losses against Wales and Ireland are frustrating.

“We are disappointed and that starts with the Wales game. However, looking at the way we bounced back against France and against England, it’s been mixed.

“We are happy with the wins and some of the stuff we’ve been doing but we have to be honest. We know we need to get better.

“It will be a tough challenge to go to Rome against Italy who have been playing good rugby and will want to finish with a win.”

A major theme of this season’s campaign has been the poor form on the road, as proven by heavy defeats in Cardiff and Dublin, 34-7 and 28-8 respectively, and Gray cannot explain the struggles away from BT Murrayfield.

He said: “I can’t answer it. At the weekend we were up against a very good team, and all credit to Ireland for winning the Six Nations.

“We went there to win and didn’t do that. We are disappointed with that but there were chances there.

“There are a l ot of things to fix. However, at the same time there are positives to take.”
