Wighton plays full 90 minutes

-

STRIKER Craig Wighton took another big step towards a first-team return when he scored and completed 90 minutes as Dundee’s U/20s won at St Johnstone last night.

It was the Scotland U/21 star’s third Development game back since he damaged knee ligaments last summer but the first time he has played the entire game.

It now puts him close to involvement again at topteam level, though whether or not manager Neil McCann includes him in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Aberdeen remains to be seen.

In line for a place in the squad for Pittodrie could be young attacker Cedwyn Scott.

The 19-year-old, who signed from Huddersfield right at the end of the January transfer window, made it three strikes in his last two Development League outings as he grabbed the final goal in a 3-0 victory that saw the young Dark Blues extend their recent unbeaten run to eight games.

They finished the game strongly after Saints had defender Ben Quigley redcarded for a foul on Scott.

Inside the last 20 minutes, Connor Coupe grabbed the opener before Wighton and Scott struck.

One blow for the young Dark Blues was the loss of centre-half Kerr Waddell through injur y midway through the first half and he could be a doubt for the weekend.

Other first-team men involved were Kevin Holt, Randy Wolters and Faissal El Bakhtaoui, who all appeared to come through unscathed.

As well as having t he option of adding Wighton to the squad to face the Dons, Dundee will have midfield duo Glen Kamara and Paul McGowan back after they missed last weekend’s heavy home defeat at the hands of Saints through bans.
