Mum’s wedding ring stolen in raid

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

Billy Gibb, 38, returned home from work to find his property in Cunningham Street “ransacked”.

Thieves snatched a haul of designer gear including Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger shirts, a digital camera, aftershaves, alcohol and a vacuum cleaner.

The criminals smashed his bedroom window before using suitcases to pack up the loot.

Billy, a breakfast chef, said: “The bedroom was completely turned over. Some of the items in the living room had been stolen as well.

“I had to go out and buy new clothes because they’ve left me with nothing other than chef whites and football tops.

“I lost my mum in November and they took her ring and purse. I don’t think it would be worth a great deal of money, but these items are personal to me. “They took a load of aftershave and a blue Rolex that belonged to my father.

“They stole a vacuum cleaner and used a suitcase and holdall to take the items away.”

Billy said he believes the thieves watched him leave the property before entering. “A neighbour on the opposite side of the road said he saw someone acting suspiciously with a scarf over his face and a cap on,” he said.

“It sounds to me that one of them kept watch, while the other remained in the house for a period of time. Whoever came in locked the door before leaving.

“I’ve already ordered CCTV to put into the property.

“Part of me thought about moving house since this happened, but I won’t let it get the better of me.”

Billy said police found one pair of footprints and glove prints at the scene.

A force spokesman said: “Police Scotland is appealing for information about a theft by housebreaking that happened in Cunningham Street between 4am-1pm on Friday March 9.

“A ground-floor flat was broken into by having the rear window smashed. A large number of items were stolen.

“These included electrical items, jewellery, more than 40 designer l abel T-shirts, a Rolex watch, and quantities of aftershaves, alcohol, and personal items.”

A CHEF has slammed the thieves who made off with thousands of pounds worth of personal items — including his dead mum’s wedding ring.
