Dragons on fire as they hit nine

-

DUNDEE Dragons U/13s won 9-4 away to St Andrews & East Neuk in the East League Cup. It was their first-ever competitive game.

The match was played at St Andrews University Sports Grounds.

Callie Bowman and Elise Salmond netted hat-tricks and there were singles for Neave Murray, Erin Dunlop and Aimee Dolan. Player of t he Match was Aimee Dolan.

Due to the adverse weather, it was tough going but Murray netted in three minutes to get Dragons off the mark.

Bowman and Dolan made it 3-0 before the home side brought it back to 3-3.

Dragons went back into the l ead through Salmond. Then Dunlop netted.

The home l ot then scored their fourth.

However, the Fifers could not stop the Dragons from going on to score further goals through Bowman and Salmond.

It was great football played by both teams especially given the weather conditions.

Dragons’ manager Samantha Fyfe said: “I am delighted with the teamwork shown by all the players. Without that our scorers would not have had their chances.”

Coach Andrew Salmond said: “I couldn’t be prouder. The girls played good passing football.

“Their willingness to regain possession when losing the ball was clear to see.”

Dragons have their first-ever Scottish Cup game on Saturday against Forfar Farmington 13s.

LETHAM U/12s secured a 4-0 win over Dunfermline U/12s in the preliminary round of the League Cup.

Coach Louise Taylor was delighted with her team’s determination in their first competitive game at U/13 level.

Chloe Buchan, Neave Wilson, Molly Dunn and Daisy Smith scored and Andi Strachan was delighted to keep her first clean sheet.

The team take on Dundee West in the next round and host Linlithgow Rose in the preliminary round of the Scottish Cup this Saturday.

Letham U/13s were dominant from start to finish in their League Cup first-round tie against Fife outfit Bayside Braves U/12s.

Letham’s experience showed against Braves, who never stopped trying.

Scorers for Letham were Jodie Barclay, Rebecca Scobie, Rhiannon McIntyre, Sky Newlands, Aimee Rylance and Nicole Wright. Keeper Izzy Kirkland was delighted to keep her first competitive clean sheet at this level.

Amy Stewart and captain Rachael Provan limited Bayside’s chances.

JEANFIELD Swifts U/15s opened their campaign in the Scottish Women’s Performance League with a win away at Boroughmuir Thistle in Edinburgh.

After a sluggish start, Swifts found their rhythm and held possession well.

Despite the poor weather conditions, the girls showed great patience in their build-up but struggled to get away any shots.

The only first half chance was an Abbie Ferguson strike that went near.

Boroughmuir always threatened on the break and, early in the second half, a loose pass in Swifts’ midfield was intercepted. Ten seconds later, the home side were ahead.

As the game wore on and conditions became worse, Swifts dominated.

Alex Robson hit a screamer against the bar before Ferguson rounded the keeper to score and level things up.

Reverting once more to the patient build-up play that had frustrated Boroughmuir in the first half, Swifts won a few corners.

Then Leah Sidey found herself on the end of a failed clearance by the home keeper and she wasted no time in knocking home the winner with just minutes remaining.

Both teams played excellent football and it was clear to see the standards expected.
