Of defenders wins on road

-

vital United picked up the win, not least because Queens had been catching them up but also to try to haul in the teams above. The victory puts the Tangerines back into third place.

“We knew we needed to get back to winning ways and it was time to roll our sleeves up and get points on the board,” added Quinn.

“We went into Tuesday’s game looking at it as a cup-tie — let’s win, put points on the board over performance.

“It’s that time of the season and we went there and did that. We were gritty, determined and, ultimately, we’ve got a few players who have quality and it showed.

“We got the job done we went there to do and we now need to build momentum because the games are coming thick and fast.”

Quinn revealed United had targeted this week for three wins against Brechin, Queen of the South and Inverness coming up on Saturday.

He said: “We looked at this week to try to get nine points. Obviously, against Brechin, three were taken away because of the weather. However, we got three on Tuesday and we’ll try to complete the week with another three on Saturday.

“Let’s not beat about the bush, we’ve let the fans down in a few games.

“In Saturday’s home game we need to give them something to cheer about, get three points on the board and then go again in what’s a hectic period.”
