Durnan showed ‘fighting spirit’

-

DUNDEE United manager Csaba Laszlo says t he bravery shown by stricken central defender Mark Durnan in Tuesday’s win at QOS is exactly the type of spirit that will drive the Ta n g e r i n e s up the Championship table.

Just before the break, Durnan clashed heads with Queens forward Ross Fergusson and was given treatment in the dressingroom as the first half played out.

Csaba revealed he was ready to sub the defender but Durnan was determined to continue despite a large gash on the top of his head.

The former Queens man ended up finishing t he 90 minutes spor ting a bright red bandage.

Csaba said: “We have seven weeks, 12 games to go playing two games a week and we will need everybody.

“You can see how quickly injury can come.

“Durnan was very brave because he got five or six stitches.

“It was a very long cut, open completely. He was very brave, he told me not to change because I thought we had to.

“He told me in the dressing-room he would go back. This showed the boys really have spirit and for this reason I am so happy.”

That “fighting spirit” was shown throughout the team on a good night for the Tangerines as they won 3-1.

Csaba added: “It wasn’t an easy game and we had to fight but, at the end of the day, I have to compliment the team because we showed fighting spirit and that we can play football.”
