CCTV appeal over city sex attack

POLICE are hunting for a man in connection with a suspceted sex attack in Dundee.

New CCTV footage has been released as officers continue to investigat­e the attack in Bellefield Avenue between 2.30am-3.10am on Sunday January 28.

Images show a man who was spotted outside Corfu Kebabs in Seagate between 1.50am-2.15am on the same date.

The man is said to have come to the aid of two women involved in a fight outside the kebab shop.

Police have described the man as in his 20s, 5ft 10in-6ft 2in with short dark hair, unshaven, wearing a dark coloured long-sleeved top, blue jeans and dark footwear.

Plain clothes officers were previously seen taking photograph­s and knocking on doors i n the aftermath of the assault.

One resident told the Tele he heard a female crying in the early hours of the morning outside the block where a woman was said to have been attacked.

Detective inspector Sue Lawson said: “Through our inquiries, it has been establishe­d that our victim went to Corfu Kebabs and I am keen to speak to anyone who may have been in or around the shop around 1.50am on Sunday January 28.

“We know that an altercatio­n took place between two women at Corfu Kebabs at this time and we hope this informatio­n will jog the memories of members of the public who were in the vicinity and may be able to assist us with the investigat­ion.”

A police spokesman added: “If you know who this male is, know his movements either before or after his attendance at the kebab shop or were present there and remember the altercatio­n, please contact police on 101 quoting reference CR/2155/18.

“If you wish to remain anonymous, please contact Crimestopp­ers 0800 555111.”

Councillor Fraser Macpherson, who represents the West End ward, told the Tele previously: “I have to say I am very shocked to hear this.

“Historical­ly, Bellefield Avenue has always been a nice residentia­l street.

“It is not a street where you would expect any crime to take place at all.”
