£25,000 now available for good causes

-

CHARITIES and local good cause groups in Dundee have been invited to apply to be considered for a share of £25,000 in funding.

The cash is being made available via Community Connect — an innovative initiative from Scotmid Co-operative.

The i nitiative was launched by Scotmid ambassador and world famous cyclist, Mark Beaumont.

Community Connect enables members to award good cause groups with funding of up to £15,000.

This is generated via the sale of single-use carrier bags.

The deadline for good cause groups and charities to apply online via the Scotmid website is next Thursday after which a panel will then shortlist three groups from an extended list.

Members accumulate votes using their Community Connect cards. They can then cast for their preferred good cause group at the North Member Region’s OGM in October.

The first-ever Community Connect winner was Dundeebased Eighteen and Under.

The group was awarded £15,000 i n October with Montrose’s Links Park Community Trust and Moray School Bank also receiving funding.

Current shortlisted groups i n Scotmid’s North Member Region are Dundee’s Positive Steps, along with the Inverness-based Highland Cycle Ability Centre and Alyth Youth Partnership.

The funding awards will be allocated after the voting takes place at the upcoming annual general meeting in Dundee on Tuesday May 1.
