ROUND-UP Stars chances gone

-

ANY slight chance Dundee Stars had of making the Elite League ice hockey play-offs were ended by a 3-0 defeat in Surrey from Guildford Flames last night.

Stars had the best of the play in the opening part of the first period but were unable to penetrate the Flames defence.

With one minute remaining in the session, Stars’ Brian Hart was awarded two minutes for slashing and playercoach Omar Pacha followed him into the penalty box with a call for kneeing.

This left the home side on a five on three and they made it count when Calle Ackered scored.

Three minutes i nto the second stanza, Guildford doubled their lead when former Star Mickael Lidhammer set up Ben Davies, who netted for 2-0.

Things weren’t going Dundee’s way and Geoff Walker made 3-0.

After the game, Pacha said: “We had trouble getting going defensively and lost a goal on a five on three.

“In the second period they grabbed a couple of goals and then we started to outplay them but just couldn’t find a way back.

“We will go into our final game at DIA on Saturday (against Nottingham) and look to give the fans a win to end their season at home with a smile.”

Meanwhile, Fife Flyers are looking to consolidate third position in the league.

However, they suffered a setback when they travelled to Nottingham where the lost the points with a 2-1 defeat to Panthers.

They followed that with a 1-0 loss to Sheffield Steelers in Kirkcaldy last night.
