Big Noise Douglas seeking volunteers

-

BIG Noise Douglas is on the lookout for volunteers to become part of a dynamic team to help children and young people at its After School Club.

A volunteer information session is being held on Monday from 3.30pm4.30pm at the Douglas Community Centre, Balmoral Avenue.

Anyone over the age of 16 with a passion for working with children is welcome to attend the session.

Big Noise Douglas, run by the charity Sistema Scotland, is an inspirational programme where children learn to play a musical instrument and perform as part of an orchestra.

These tools equip children with a range of social and life skills including confidence, resilience and aspiration.

Sistema Scotland believes that every child and young person deserves the same opportunity to succeed regardless of their background, household income or where they live.

Big Noise Douglas, which was launched last year, works with all the children in Primary 1, 2 and 3 at both St Pius and Claypotts Castle primary schools and nurseries, which is around 450 youngsters in total.

The programme will expand in April with the addition of an After School Club for the Primary 3 children at both schools.

Optimistic Sound, the charity set up by friends of the late Dundee musician Michael Marra, campaigned to bring Big Noise to Dundee and has undertaken to raise funding to enable Big Noise Douglas to develop further and reach children from babies up to school leavers.

Big Noise Douglas also benefits from partnerships with Dundee City Council and the Gannochy Trust.

It receives support from the Scottish Government, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery and a range of trusts, foundations and individuals.
