Cavanagh returns to Broughty squad
BROUGHTY Athletic have re-signed Danny Cavanagh on loan from Montrose until the end of the season.
The attacker goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s Super League game at Newtongrange.
His return is a welcome addition for boss Jamie McCunnie, who, despite last week’s defeat from Penicuik, is looking forward to tomorrow’s trip over the Forth.
He said: “I thought we showed Penicuik too much respect in the first half but had a real go at them in the second 45 and, in the end, we were unlucky to come away empty-handed.
“We were without Graham Hay, Fraser Smith and Chris McPherson, who are among our more experienced players. Hopefully some of them will be fit for the trip to Newtongrange where it’s never easy.
“We will have to make a better start than we did last Saturday if we are to give ourselves a fighting chance of returning with the points.”
After the cup heroics of last week, it’s back to the bread and butter of the Super League for Lochee United tomorrow, with a trip to Fife to face Kennoway on the agenda.
George Shields’ side will be out to complete the double over the Fifers, having beaten them 4-2 when they met at Thomson Park earlier in the season.
Confidence in the Lochee camp is sky high following last week’s great performance and they now eagerly await the draw to see who they will meet in the semi-final.
Everyone came through the trip to Ayrshire unscathed, which only leaves Paddy Deane and Kevin Buchan on the sidelines.
If Jeanfield Swifts are to avoid a hattrick of defeats, they really have it all to do with a visit from league leaders Penicuik Athletic .
Swifts have their full squad of 17 available.
Carnoustie don’t have a scheduled game this week, although they will play Kirrie Thistle at Laing Park in a GA Cup tie if Thistle’s league match at Bathgate is off.
