Luggy: I’ll give my all to help

-

TANGERINES legend Paul Sturrock is back to help manager Csaba Laszlo, not replace him.

Recently appointed chief scout in England, “Luggy” will arrive in Dundee tonight to take up a coaching role until the end of the season.

Some will see the role of an experienced ex-manager who has such strong Dundee United ties as a threat to the current boss.

But Sturrock has stressed his role is temporary and Laszlo retains complete control over team matters.

“When Csaba phoned and asked me to consider this, I didn’t delay with my response. I’ll do what I can to help this club,” he said.

“I know what it means to be a player and a coach at United and I will give my all to help achieve our goal.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Jordie Briels is set to admit defeat in his battle to return from injury before the end of the season.

That’s his manager’s verdict. He had hoped the Dutchman would be fit for the closing two months of the campaign.

The 26-year-old has been out since October because of a hip condition and, although as recently as last week he looked close to a return, it’s flared up again.

“Jordie Briels is not OK. It’s the old story, he began to play a little bit last week but I think he will struggle until the end of the season, unfortunately,” said Csaba.

“He had medicine and he got a bit better but he is having problems to get to his fitness.

“It’s not easy for him, d e f i n i t e l y. T h e m o s t important thing i s he’s tried, he’s tried very hard, but t he body it hasn’t responded positively.”

Striker Emil Lyng is back after recovering from the knee knock he suffered in the defeat at Livingston last month and is likely to at least make the bench.
