Following the Spain game, however, he was one of five U/21 players invited to train with the Northern Ireland senior squad by boss Michael O’Neill.
Meanwhile, fellow Saint David Wotherspoon made his full international debut as Canada ran out 1-0 winners in a closed doors game against New Zealand in Spain.
The Perth-born 28-yearold became the second man to play for Canada before ever having actually stepped foot in the country and marked the occasion with some really astute through balls.
He said: “What an honour it is to be involved with the Canadian team and an even bigger honour in making an appearance in what was a good 1-0 victory for the side.”
Former Saint Graham Cummins has been named SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association of Ireland Player of the Month for February.
He has started his second spell with Cork City with a number of goals and is looking forward to the rest of the season.
Looking back on his time in Perth, he commented: “I did enjoy it.
“Sometimes when you are not playing it can be really tough.
“I went through a period at the start of this season with St Johnstone where it was tough because I was not playing much.
“At times I felt like I was coming into the team and if we’d lose the game, then straight away I was the first name out.
“However, I did enjoy it. I love the fact I went over and I would have always regretted had I not gone.”
