HOLLYWOOD star Brian Cox says he was stunned to learn the lead character in his new TV drama is Dundonian.

The Braveheart and Bourne series actor stars in Succession which will hit American screens on HBO in June.

But it was only last week that Cox discovered Logan Roy — the lead character he plays — was born in the City of Discovery.

The eight-episode drama follows a powerful global media family who own one of the biggest conglomerates in the world.

Cox spoke to the Tele after making a flying visit to his home city to speak to performing arts students at Dundee and Angus College’s Kingsway campus.

He said: “Succession is a big thing I’m sort of locked into and I’ll be doing that for another season if it’s successful.

“I had a very successful time shooting it and it’s gone very well.

“I’m very pleased with what we’ve done. It’s a very unusual show. It’s mainly British writers but it’s an American show and I play a guy who is sort of brought up in Canada but I’ve only just discovered he was born in Dundee.”

The 71-year-old added: “They said to me your American is great but they wanted me to be one of these immigrant children at the beginning of the war who started life in Dundee but ended up in Canada.

“It was a surprise because I just wasn’t expecting it. Initially I thought the character could be a Scots journalist similar to (Rupert) Murdoch but they wanted it more American but it’s a nice tick to Dundee.”

Succession was created by Peep Show and Veep writer Jesse
