Irritated by sheriff’s view on child porn
THE Tele investigation into the sentencing of those found guilty of having child pornography made thought-provoking reading.
“Normal” people couldn’t fail to be angered by the leniency of the sentences that have been handed out recently.
I was irked to read the comments from retired Sheriff Richard Davidson.
He feels the sentencing options don’t need to be revisited and reminds us that “a lot of people convicted of these offences are of limited mental capacity”.
I don’t believe that a huge number are so mentally incapacitated that they don’t know that accessing pornographic images of children is wrong.
And if they are, they should not have unsupervised access to the internet and “parental” controls should be set to stop them.
According to the sheriff the other disclaimer is that some of the perpetrators have been abused themselves and “you need to have some awareness of that”.
No I don’t. Remembering their bad experience should make it that they don’t want to inflict this on anyone else.
Many victims of abuse have gone on to help others — Laurie Matthew, founder of Dundee charity Eighteen and Under being just one.
I’m of the lock them up brigade.
Throw away the key.
IN response to your story on child porn, I was so disgusted that these people have almost been given the go-ahead over their sick behaviour.
How in the world can they get away with possessing indecent images of children, some in the most explicit category?
At the most recent court case the perpetrator was given his computer back.
Are you kidding me? That is absolutely disgraceful.
These people should be given jail time — especially where children are concerned.
I just can’t get over this one.

RE the article in the Evening Telegraph about the amount of people walking free from court in Dundee having been found guilty of possessing child pornography. I was absolutely incensed reading this. I 100% agree with everything Laurie Matthew, of Eighteen and Under, and Joseph Lumbasi, of Izzy’s Promise, a charity supporting children of ritual and organised abuse, said.
They blasted the court decisions that have allowed these sex offenders to remain at liberty.
And I will add that the sheriffs who are handing out what equates to no punishment whatsoever really need to be investigated as to their competence or lack thereof.
