ROUND-UP Second-half goal rush sees GM stay third

-

GROVE Menzieshill men’s hockey team maintained third place in the National League with a 7-0 win over Inverleith at DISC.

They began with an early opener for Aidan McQuade but failed to add to that before half-time.

The second half was different as Menzieshill added six more.

Cameron Golden scored twice, McQuade added his second and Paul Martin netted a hat-trick.

Having overtaken Grange for the lead i n the First Division, Kelburne beat them 5-3 in Glasgow.

Kelburne are in the driving seat with a four-point advantage.

Dundee Wanderers picked up a point at Edinburgh University but that still left the students with a two-point advantage.

Wanderers fought well to come from behind, Sean Dowie scoring the equaliser from the penalty spot.

Grove Menzieshill held Kelburne to a 3-3 draw on Glasgow Green.

Menzieshill had the initiative in the early stages but it was Kelburne who took the lead towards the end of the first half.

The Dundee side equalised one minute after the restart when Cameron Golden caught out the Kelburne defence.

Kelburne again took the lead and again Menzieshill equalised, this time through Albert Rowling from a penalty.

Kelburne took the lead for the third time and again Menzieshill drew level, this time through Paul Martin scoring his fourth goal of the weekend.

After conceding an early goal, Wanderers established a 2-1 lead over Hillhead but they failed to hold on to that advantage and suffered a 3-2 defeat.

Wanderers are now firmly in the extended play-off zone and will have to transform their good play into points to avoid the agony of the play-offs.

Harris gave a muchimproved performance against Glasgow University and took a first-half lead through Ian Mitchell.

They were unfortunate to concede two late goals to deny them at least the point which they deserved.

Edinburgh University women still lead the way in Division One after their victory over Dundee Wanderers.

However, the 1-0 margin was much closer than might have been expected.

That left Wanderers further off fourth place and hopes of achieving that place in the play-offs fast receding.

Wanderers did add three points on Sunday against Hillhead, a match they would have expected to win.

Emily Dark fired them ahead in the first half and a goal apiece from Jess Ross and Amy Snelle clinched the points in the second period.

Clydesdale Western strengthened their standing in second place. A 4-0 win was probably about par against Western Wildcats.

Grove II’s fine win over Stirling University keeps them well placed in Championship One though still adrift of leading teams Edinburgh University II and Clydesdale Western II. Ellie Stott, Emily Lawson, Rhona McGregor and Lauren Kingston all got on the scoresheet.

Vicky Carver’s goal earned Kinross a point at Ayr which keeps them in mid-table in Championship Two.

Brechin Thistles had a substantial win over Kinross II, Ashleigh Leslie scoring twice and Claire Summers, Lizzy Baxter and Nici Smith netting once each.

Blairgowrie won a close encounter against Madras, Sarah Elliott scoring both.

Blairgowrie completed a good weekend with a 1-0 win over Kinross II
