Luggy’s experience can be boost for Utd

-

It’s a big week for Dundee United — they all are now I suppose but they certainly need to get a win somehow to get out of the rut they’re in.

The next two are both away, Inverness tonight and then Morton on Saturday, but you look back at the last three home games where, in my eyes, they should be getting nine points but instead they get two.

United need to be — and have been over the past couple of seasons — a really tough nut to crack at home.

Two draws out of games against Dunfermline, Queen of the South and Inverness just isn’t good enough.

We’ve been going on about the games in hand they have but when you’re struggling to get any sort of result, points on the board are what count.

Hopefully, bringing Paul Sturrock in — with all his experience and close connection with the club — can inspire something in the players.

I played under him at Plymouth on loan from Dundee and I liked him.

He was a really good coach and I enjoyed playing for him.

If he can help Csaba Laszlo on the training ground to get the players playing it’ll be a good move.

It strikes me as more of a club decision than the manager’s to bring ‘Luggy’ in as a coach.

However, I’m sure Sturrock has enough experience to realise the difficulties the manager has and to help where he can.

Taking players aside to give wee pointers or giving Csaba bits of advice can’t hurt.

It all depends on how Sturrock goes about his role — if he starts taking team-talks and taking training then there will be a problem.

He’s highly-regarded by the fans, though, and it’s good to at least have a wee bit of positivity about the place with Sturrock helping out.

They have a tough trip tonight up to Inverness but, hopefully, United can spoil their party a bit.

Caley Thistle will be buzzing after their Irn-Bru Cup victory at the weekend but, with a bit of luck, that could work in the Tangerines’ favour.

They’ll be on a high but might have celebrated a bit too much and United can catch them out.

Here’s hoping.
