Dundee Decides:
Results of £1.2m ward fund project announced
DUNDONIANS have decided where more than £1 million of council money will be spent.
After two months and more than 11,000 responses, the results of Dundee Decides which will see £150,000 given to community projects in every council ward were announced today.
People from all over the city took part in the vote to help choose how to spend £1.2 million of Dundee City Council’s Community Infrastructure Fund.
Residents aged 11 or above were eligible to vote, with projects on offer including improvements to play areas, introducing pedestrian crossings and fixing pavements, lighting and planting.
Any funds left over from the chosen projects will be allocated to enhance winning schemes in each ward.
John Alexander, leader of Dundee City Council, said: “I am absolutely blown away by the level of engagement and informed participation there has been.
“In other parts of Scotland councils used a separate pot of cash for their participatory budgeting arrangements, we are the only place in the country to take a slice of our mainstream budget and hand it over to communities to decide how and where it should be spent.
“It seems to have really captured the imagination of the people of Dundee who have got behind it in their droves to tell us where they think.” Our
