Dance project delight over £2k injection
A YOUTH dance project has received a £2,000 cash injection that will go towards a dance performance tour around Dundee.
Shaper/Caper project will be touring Our Life, Our Show, as part of a social entrepreneurship project designed by young people at The Body, the youth council group that informs and supports Shaper/Caper.
The youth council will work closely with two local early career dancers in the creation, management and delivery of a show to be performed at local community centres, schools, and care homes.
In addition, other young people will be involved in the process while they attend practical work experience and volunteer with the project. Yolanda Aguilar, director of operations at Shaper/Caper, said: “We are ecstatic to be part of such a wonderful youth support initiative, as we are aware that we didn’t have these opportunities when we grew up.
“The young people’s intelligence and spontaneity, their energy and innovative thinking pleasantly surprise us. All of this has enhanced our organisation greatly.
“We wish to help young people hone those skills for their personal benefit and the improvement of the Scotland.”
Year of Young People 2018 aims to inspire Scotland through its young people, celebrating their achievements, valuing their contribution to communities and creating new opportunities for them.
The youth community action fund is administered by YouthLink Scotland, the national agency for youth work that’s funded by Scottish Government.
Jim Sweeney MBE, chief executive of YouthLink Scotland, added: “We want to celebrate young people and the youth workers who make a difference.” future of
