Pedal to the pool and dive in for a free holiday swim

-

AN offer to encourage Dundonians to get involved in a healthy lifestyle has just been enhanced.

Pedal to the Pool will provide everyone with a free swim upon showing a “selfie” picture as proof they have cycled to Leisure and Culture Dundee swim centres.

The scheme was first introduced last year for children and has now been extended to include everyone in the city until April 19 — which includes the school holidays.

Sinclair Aitken, chairman of Leisure and Culture Dundee, said: “I’m sure families will welcome the opportunity to make a day of swimming and cycling in Dundee for free during the Easter holidays.”

Councillor Kevin Cordell, the local authority’s spokesman on cycling, said: “This is a great scheme that gives youngsters, and for the first time this year the adults that are with them, the chance of two types of free healthy exercise during the school holidays.

“Cycling and swimming are great ways of getting and staying healthy, and a scheme like this that combines the two must be double bubble.”

Additionally, If you want to check your bike is safe to use, take advantage of events taking place in City Square between noon-3pm on April 11, when people can get their bike checked and minor repairs for free.

Under the Pedal to the Pool initiative, anyone swims for free when they arrive at Olympia, Lochee, Grove, Harris or St Paul’s swimming pools by bike.

The scheme has been made possible thanks to the Scottish Government’s Smarter Choices Smarter Places programme, Dundee City Council and Leisure and Culture Dundee.
