Dundee pair draw praise for artwork
TWO Dundee primary pupils were runners-up in a national drawing competition.
Craig Murray, a P5 pupil at Victoria Park Primary, and Ksneia Kapelyukh, a first year student at the High School of Dundee, entered into this year’s John Byrne National Drawing Competition.
Mr Byrne said: “The talent this year has once again been outstanding, making my job as a judge very difficult.
“I’m encouraged by the standard of all the artwork submitted.
“I hope pupils across Scotland will continue to harness their artistic skills and love for drawing.”
The competition is open to pupils from P4-S3.
There were 30 artists selected as runners-up and each received a certificate specially designed by Mr Byrne.
Gayle Gorman, Education Scotland chief executive, said: “As we celebrate the Year of Young People, I’m delighted such a large number of pupils took part i n the drawing competition.
“Education Scotland is delighted to be involved in the competition as it offers pupils across Scotland the opportunity to showcase their drawing skills and creativity.
“Congratulations to all the winners and those who took part.”
The competition took place at the University of Strathclyde.
In first place came Seonaid Best from Inverkeithing High School, second place was awarded to Zak Wilkie from Parkhill Secondary School in Glasgow and third place went to Astrid Fraser from Avoch Primary School in the Highlands.
