Neighbours must keep a check on dog

-

I SYMPATHISE greatly with the youngster and his mum witnessing the return to their street of the dog that tore into the boy’s leg, hospitalising him.

It’s up to the neighbourhood involved, however, to observe that the Dog Control Notice (ie a muzzled dog) is at all times adhered to.

Only if this order has been breached can any further action be instigated.

Dogs can’t bite when they are muzzled. And isn’t it crazy that this was not law in the first place?

Thankfully, as calm now prevails, we must adhere to the police motto: “semper vigilo” which means “I am always watchful/vigilant”.

I CAN well understand why a mother was angry to learn that a dog that had bit her son had been let back to the street where they live.

Dogs can be dangerous so the owner must act with caution and keep the dog under control.

I HAVE to agree with the mum’s anger over the dog that attacked her son being allowed to move back to the area.

I understand the owner died so criminal proceedings were stopped.

And where the dog may be all the family has left of the deceased, they can’t fail to see how it is insensitive, the say the least, to bring the dog back to the area where the child lives and has to walk by.

In the article the family said they wanted to “forget it and leave it in the past”.

I think that will be easier for them than for the 10-year-old who spent time in hospital and is still has a physical scar and, as his mum said, is “terrified as he doesn’t want to see the dog again”.

I hope they comply with the Dog Control Notice and keep the dog muzzled and on a leash in public. It is the very least they can do.
