Buddies boss is upbeat

-

ST MIRREN boss Jack Ross is refusing to be too hard on his players despite seeing the Ladbrokes Championship leaders throw away victory at Inverness.

The Buddies looked to be taking another big step towards claiming the title when Harry Davis and Lewis Morgan put them two up in the Highlands.

But Caley Thistle hit back in the final 12 minutes with goals from Gary Warren and Liam Polworth to claim a 2-2 draw.

Saints only need seven more points to secure the title with six games to play and Ross is remaining positive.

He said: “The manner of how the result comes around is the disappointing thing as we put ourselves in a good position.

“However, there are still a lot of positives from the result. We’re a point closer towards a total that cannot be caught.

“The players are all disappointed but that just shows how far they have come as a group as they expect to win every week but you’re never going to do that.”

Second-bottom Livingston did all they could to put pressure on their Paisley rivals as they beat Dumbarton 3-0 thanks to strikes from Lee Miller, Ryan Hardie and Raffaele De Vita.

Dunfermline moved up to fourth after Nicky Clark netted his second hat-trick of the month.

Clarke’s treble gave the Fifers a 3-1 win over Queen of the South, who hit back through Jordan Marshall.

Falkirk, meanwhile, punished already-relegated Brechin with a 3-0 win.

The Bairns were two goals up in the first-half thanks to efforts from Robbie Muirhead and Craig Sibbald, with Andrew Nelson rubbing salt into City wounds after the break.
