Anger over park fire
A wheelie bin was set on fire and left to burn out at Orchar Park, off Monifieth Road.
The incident came two weeks after a planter on the corner of Aberdour Place was deliberately set alight.
Residents raised their concerns with Councillor Craig Duncan after the latest incident, with the bin’s burnt-out remains lying in the park over the Easter weekend.
Mr Duncan reported the incident to Dundee City Council and asked for the debris to be cleaned up.
He said: “It causes an inconvenience for quite a few people.
“Somebody owns these bins so someone is going to be short of a bin now.
“About two weeks ago one of the planters was set on fire at the corner of Aberdour Place. now hopeful some action would be taken.
He said it was possible that these types of incidents would escalate as the nights become lighter.
He hoped that by asking the police to step up their presence, the perpetrators might be caught and repetitions of this type of incident could be stopped.
But he added: “We appreciate the police can’t be everywhere all the time.”
A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Orchar Park after reports of a wheelie bin on fire at 11.28pm on Friday
One appliance was sent to the scene and a hose reel jet was used to extinguish the flames.
The stop message came in at 11.39pm and the firefighters left the scene soon after.
The mess at the park has been cleared, although the burnt-out grass still remains.
Police Scotland has been asked for comment but had not responded at the time of going to press.
