Five in a row for superb Nomads

NOMADS are Dundee and District Division One badminton champs despite losing three of their top players.

They have now won the title five seasons in a row but will be disappoint­ed an unbeaten record stretching back three seasons has been broken as they lost 6-2 in their final league match to Roseangle.

Roseangle won both gents doubles and one of the ladies to go into the mixed 3-0 ahead.

Though Nomads won the opening mixed, three wins on the bounce sealed a fine Roseangle win.

In Division Three, St Andrews University turned up a man short for their match against Abertay University (2) but won 5-3.

Nomads (4) had their second win and moved off the bottom with a 5-0 success against Abertay University (2).

There was a brilliant performanc­e from young Meghan Walker with three wins in what was a good all-round show from Nomads (4).

In the gents doubles, Monifieth Grove recorded their first victory, an excellent 3-2 win away to NCR.

It was close all the way with Gordon Smith and Brent Mitchell getting the decisive 21-6, 21-12 win.

The next DABA ladder event is on April 14 at DISC (9.45-2pm).

The format is the same as before, couples (both male, both female or mixed), will be split into pools and there will be promotion and relegation to form new pools.
