Craig ready to make his comeback

- BY GEORGE CRAN

IT’S been a long wait for Dundee’s Craig Wighton to make a first appearance of the season but he’s hoping all the hard work he’s put in over the last seven months can help him swap Links Park for Celtic Park tonight.

The Dens favourite has been out of action since the eve of the campaign after he damaged his cruciate ligament in a bounce game.

Now, t hough, he’s got a few Development League matches under his belt and is ready for a return to first-team action.

Wighton featured for the youth side in Monday night’s 3-0 win over Hamilton Accies at Montrose’s Link’s Park but is hoping to get a run-out tonight at the home of the champions or, if not, on Saturday at Ibrox.

He said: “It’ll be a bit different to Links Park anyway!

“If I do get game time tonight or at the weekend, those are the places you want to be playing.

“I think everyone is looking forward to it and, with the style of football we play, we’re not just going to go and sit behind the ball, we’ll have a go. I think we showed at the weekend we were a lot better than Hearts and deserved three points.

“Another performance like that tonight would be perfect.”

It’s been so long since he actually featured for the first team, the entire frontline of the team has changed, though he’s not worrying about anything other than getting back out on the pitch.

“With Marcus Haber being out, I’ve not actually played with any of the strikers or attackers,” he added.

“In training, though, you can tell how players play and I’ve watched them enough this season to know what they are going to do. So if I do play, that won’t be a problem.

“I feel good, I’ve played three 90 minutes f or the U/20s and 60 minutes in the game on Monday and I’ve felt absolutely fine.

“There’s not really been any bother at all the whole way through.

“In training, I’m starting to feel sharper and in the games, too, and I’m looking forward to getting back.”
