Wighton hoping to swap Links Park for Celtic Park

-

Wighton also revealed he’s tried to use the enforced lay-off in as positive a way as he could and has put in plenty of effort during his time out to ensure he’s an even better player than the one who went under the knife six months ago.

“The first month or so, you’re down and, before the operation, I couldn’t do anything. However, after that I was in and able to do stuff straight away, which helped.

“I just kept my head down and Jaz (James McPake) was there, Meeks (Josh Meekings), too, and it was good to have other people there.

“We were all pushing each other on. If there was a day you were a bit down, they’d pick you up, so it was good to have that. Physio Gerry Docherty as well was positive all the way through which helped.

“It’s frustrating, though, when you can’t do anything, you’re just in the gym and watching the games. You don’t really feel part of it but now I’m back, training, playing games and, hopefully, get some minutes for the first team.

“When watching games you think I’d love to help but you can’t, you have to be patient but it’s probably been a good thing in some ways.

“It’s given me a lot of time in the gym where I wouldn’t have got that and I’ve tried to take it like what happened, happened, and have tried to turn it into a positive.

“I’ve definitely bulked up in my legs and everything which before, if I was playing every week, I wouldn’t have the time to do that.

“I’m not saying the injury was a good thing but I’ve taken it that way and tried to use it as a positive and use the time as well as I could.”
