Major traffic disruption after five-car collision
RUSH-hour motorists were faced with massive delays today after a five-vehicle accident on a major commuter route between Dundee and Perth.
A stretch of carriageway just off the A85 Dundee Road near Branklyn Garden in Perth was closed in both directions following the incident.
The crash caused a huge backlog of traffic in the area.
It is understood no one was seriously injured in the collision, which was reported to Police Scotland just after 7am.
Massive queues of traffic were reported by motorists making their way to work, with diversions put i n place via the Broxden Roundabout and the Friarton Bridge, as emergency service workers battled to clear debris from the carriageway.
Delays were still being reported as the Evening Telegraph went to press.
Bus operator Stagecoach advised travellers that three of its services had been redirected as a result of the accident.
The tweet just after 8am said: “Perth services X8 X7 and 16 are on a diversion at the moment due to a five-car accident.
“Diversion via Broxden and Friarton Bridge to and from Dundee.”
Councillor Bob Brawn, who is a member of t he Tactran Board — the regional transport partnership for Tayside and Central Scotland — said he was not aware of the area having been an accident blackspot in the past.
The Scottish Conservative member for Blairgowrie and Glens said: “Obviously — and I am speaking for all my fellow elected members — I hope that there are no injuries involved.” A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed officers were in attendance at the incident. The spokesman said: “Police Scotland attended Dundee Road, Perth, shortly after 7am today in response to a five-car road traffic collision which resulted in the closure of the road. “There were no apparent serious injuries.” The Scottish Ambulance Service has been asked for comment but had not responded at the time of going to press.
