Cut price of city centre parking for trial period

-

FEW issues appear to provoke as much debate in the Tele as parking in Dundee.

The city council’s latest attempt to introduce a residents’ parking permit scheme already seems doomed to failure.

I can see both sides of the argument. Residents quite understandably become frustrated when they see so-called “park and striders” occupying the spaces outside their homes.

As has been pointed out, however, those who choose to park outwith the city centre and walk to work are not breaking any laws.

At the same time, multi-storey car parks in the city centre appear to be operating well short of capacity.

Even as a short-term experiment, might the council consider a significant reduction in car park fees to encourage more people to use them?

The resultant increase in drivers using the car parks would largely compensate for any loss of income, while at the same time tackling the “park and stride” issue.

Nosey parker.
