Saints Women capture Fiona

-

ST JOHNSTONE Women have signed Fiona Mearns, who was most recently with Dundee United.

The 27-year-old striker returns to Perth after being part of the Jeanfield side that won the SWFL1 Cup in 2015.

Fiona dislocated her right knee and damaged tendons and ligaments in it earlier this year, the injury requiring surgery.

She said: “I’m really excited to sign for Saints.

“I loved the three seasons I previously played at Jeanfield.

“The set-up is great, coach Jason McCrindle is great and he’s shown a lot of faith in signing me. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch.”

Jason said: “I’m delighted to have signed Fiona.

“She will play a big part for us.

“I’m looking forward to working with her once again.”

DUNDEE Dragons 13s won 9-0 away to Blairgowrie & Rattray CSC in the Dragons firstever league game.

They started well with Elise Salmond opening the scoring in the first seconds, the first of her goals.

Midfield player Aimee Dolan, who netted once, controlled the majority of the game, using wide players Neave Murray, Amy Smith and Elise Salmond well.

Striker Callie Bowman was on top form, netting three times.

Defender Camryn Carr netted once as well as striking the bar and post

Dragons’ defence was solid for the majority of the game with Carr, Hali Cargill and Kaitlyn Black doing a good job of protecting goalkeeper Holly McBrearty. Black also scored.

The Player of the Match award went to Salmond.

Captain Neave Murray, who scored once, said: “I’m really happy with the team.

“We all played very well.

“Blairgowrie & Rattray had some strong players and their goalkeeper was amazing.”

Manager Samantha Fyfe commented: “I’m happy the girls came into the game focused and wanting to win.

“It’s never nice to tell players they are substitutes when everyone is eager to play — and the girls didn’t hesitate to let me know they wanted on the pitch.

“It’s a new league to both Blairgowrie & Rattarty CSC 13s and us.

“As happy as I am with the win, we have to stay focused and continue to train hard.

“Their goalkeeper had a tough game and, despite the scoreline, she made some great saves, much to our frustration.”
