COMMUNITY Club Dundee West have signed up more than 50 talented youngsters to their Fun Fours group.

The kids, aged 6-8, put pen to paper at the club’s Charlotte Street hub last Friday night.

Twenty of the boys have progressed from West’s Wee Westies class, highlighting the pathway in youth football at the club from the age of three and up.

The Fun Fours are now looking forward to returning to training on April 17.

MONIFIETH Athletic 2006 are heading to Barcelona this weekend to play in a tournament.

The squad of 20 11-12-year-old boys play in the Dundee and District Youth FA.

This season is one of transition, changing from 7x7 to 11x11 with the boys soon coming to the end of their time in sevens.

Secretary Neil Brady said: “We have been planning the Barcelona trip for some time.

“We will be taking part in the Football Cup Barcelona tournament, held in Salou.

“Our team is managed by Robbie Raeside, the former Dundee and Raith defender, and supported by other volunteer coaches and, more widely, by all parents.

“We have entered two teams in the competition and named ourselves Monifieth Athletic Rhinos and Kickers.

“The event has a total of 108 teams of different age groups entering and competing from all over the world.

“We have 28 teams in our own age group competing.

“This trip will provide our team with a positive lifelong memory.”
