Tay Cities Deal projects in the spotlight
A PAIR of proposed culture and tourism projects forming part of the Tay Cities Deal bid have played host to the area’s leading councillors.
Elected members from Angus, Dundee, Fife and Perth & Kinross councils saw for themselves the opportunities on offer at Frigate Unicorn as part of the Dundee Maritime Museum and at Discovery Point.
The two schemes are among more than 50 projects included in a submission document to bring an employment boost through a number of key sectors including culture and tourism.
Councillor John Alexander, Dundee City Council leader, said: “Our cultural offering plays a central role in delivering the commitment to reducing unemployment and becoming a vibrant and attractive city with an excellent quality of life where people choose to live, learn, work and visit.
“According to the most recent figures tourism was worth more than £150million to the Dundee economy alone and these projects highlight the importance of getting our cultural and tourism offering right.”
Councillor Bob Myles, Angus Council leader, said: “There is little doubt that tourism brings a great deal to Angus and the wider area, as we will see this summer when Carnoustie hosts the 147th Open Championship and welcomes in a global audience.’’
