Talk on history of distilling in Dundee

-

THE founder of a Dundee distillery will be one of the keynote speakers as part of this year’s Stobfest.

Andy MacKenzie, managing director of Verdant Spirits, will take part in a special talk about the history of distilling in Dundee.

Verdant Spirits is based in the former Engine House at the Edward St Mill in Dundee’s West End and produce Verdant Gin.

Distilling in Dundee has had a long and successful association with the spirits trade for almost 200 years.

Mr MacKenzie will discuss the history of distilling in Dundee through to today’s revival at the Arthurstone Library on Tuesday May 8. The evening takes people through the city’s maritime history and its connections with other coastal communities on the British Isles and on the Continent looking at both legal and perhaps illegal distilling in the city.

People will also have the opportunity to taste two of Verdant’s products — the floral Keillor Gin and the classic Verdant Gin.

The event, which starts at 7pm, is the first of its kind for Stobfest with organisers hoping to celebrate the resurgence of the industry to complement other new developments being brought to Dundee in 2018.
