Premier promotion race is heating up

-

IN the Premier League, it looks all done and dusted for runaway leaders Musselburgh but the race for second place is hotting up and Tayport are among the front-runners.

They currently sit in third position, five points behind Haddington but have a game in hand and a win at Fauldhouse would keep the pressure on.

Last week’s victory at Dalkeith was a big result for the Fifers and they must look for the same again against Fauldhouse, who are still in the running themselves despite currently sitting sixth top.

The Lothian side are only a point behind ’Port but have three games in hand, so a win for Charlie King’s men is crucial.

Tayport will be without Stewart McConnachie, while Jamie Mackie is suspended

While Fauldhouse still have 12 league games to play, at the opposite end of the scale St Andrews will only have two games remaining this week’s visit to Downfield.

The Spiders have been building up some momentum with recent results and a win over the Saints would see them climb further away from the danger zone.

They will again be without Phil Hagan and Calvin Colquhoun, who is unlikely to feature again this season after a serious facial injury.

In the wake of manager Craig Morrison’s resignation last weekend, coach Scott Wallace and senior player Scott Lawrie take charge of Saints.

The Fifers, who are looking to end a run of foursuccessive reversals, are without the suspended Scott Orrock.

Kirrie Thistle must put last week’s 7-0 defeat away to leaders Musselburgh behind them as they host Arniston in a basement battle.

The visitors are only ahead of Chris Kettles’side on goal difference, but have three games in hand.
