Saints are hopeful that Kane will recover quickly

-

ST JOHNSTONE striker Chris Kane was taken off late on in the home 0-0 divide against Motherwell.

He seemed to be suffering from a knock and the Perth men hope it isn’t too serious.

They already have Callum Hendry, Brian Easton, Stefan Scougall, Blair Alston and David McMillan on the sidelines.

The Motherwell stalemate was only the fourth 0-0 draw between Saints and the Steelmen in 159 meetings and the first for 47 games dating back to May 1999.

Saints are presently eighth in the Premiership and are looking to finish seventh. Manager Tommy Wright is sure his players will have plenty of motivation for the last five fixtures.

“There’s contracts to be played for, whether it’s here or somewhere else,” he said.

“Bonuses still go on. Players will be motivated for whatever reason and not solely for money.

“I know what motivates me is that I don’t want to lose any game, no matter who I’m playing.

“So I’ll make sure the players stay motivated as we try to finish the season strongly.

“We will introduce more of our younger players i n the coming fixtures as well.

“So there is still a lot we can achieve out of the season in terms of finishing seventh and gaining experience for our younger players looking forward to next season.”

Wright will also be holding talks with out-of-contract players and making inquiries about ones he wants to bring in.

Saints will have 11 first-team squad members out of contract come the end of the season.
