Fire crews tackle massive blaze at abandoned manor

-

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed they had assisted fire crews but that they had not launched an investigation into the incident.

He said they attended the scene around 6.30am.

He said: “The fire service was leading on the incident.

“We were asked to attend and help with traffic management while the fire service dealt with the fire.”

One witness, who asked not to be named, said police had closed off nearby roads to all traffic.

He said: “The police blocked the road off at Lundin Links.

“They said there were too many fire engines to let anyone else down the road.”

Another local witness said they had been on their way to work when they saw fire crews from Dundee heading across the Tay Bridge.

Last year, Fife Council has announced plans to transform the derelict manor house i nto a training centre and a museum focusing on Second World War troops who trained in the grounds of the park.

On March 30, the Silverburn Park Facebook page carried a message highlighting the issue of fires in the area – saying that a bothy had been burned down and also a wheelie bin left on a fire pit.

Silverburn House was categorised as in “very poor” condition and as being high risk on the Buildings at Risk register.
