Always take receipt when you buy fuel

-

Be warned Tele readers, always take a receipt.

I purchased £20 of petrol at Asda Milton of Craigie and paid at the attendant’s box. I did not take a receipt for payment.

Two weeks later I went back to buy petrol as normal. The pump did not register so I informed the petrol attendant who came out and shouted across that we were barred from obtaining petrol as we had driven off without paying two weeks before,.

This was very embarrassing to say the least. When querying it we were told the facerecognition camera picked out our car’s number plate.

We contacted Asda’s headquarters by email who assured us they had twice contacted the store in Dundee requesting they contact us but to no avail.

Eventually the local Asda did contact us stating they could not understand how this had happened. They are to investigate further and will get back to us.

We subsequently contacted our local police station who confirmed they had no record of us obtaining petrol without payment.

Asda obviously do not report the theft of petrol to the police.

We shall not be purchasing petrol from Asda any time in the future and would advise if you do you should always obtain a receipt as proof of purchase.

When contacted by Dundee Asda there was no hint of an apology after being subjected to such an embarrassment.

JS, Carnoustie.
