Nick’s seeing stars

Hilltown artist ‘speechless’ after answering online ad

- BY JAMES SIMPSON

Nick Shane, from the Hilltown, will be playing the VIP tent at the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, after spotting an online ad.

The musician, who also performs with Nick Shane & The Rising Sons, said he could potentially be performing in front of artists including Paloma Faith, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Professor Green.

Starting in 2004, the festival, by Beauly in Inverness-shire, has previously attracted major acts including Manic Street Preachers, Tom Jones and Razorlight.

Nick, 27, said: “I started following a Facebook group for Inverness musicians advertising for a backing musician playing background music.

“Usually when you see these adverts you end up playing in front of four people at a dinner for free.

“I was asked to send over some material of a piano gig I did in February and also sent over other material.

“It would appear this is the one-in-150 chance where something like this happens.”

Nick will be performing on Friday August 3 and said he was absolutely “speechless” once he was given more details of the event.

He added: “I was only told this week the full extent of what I’m doing.

“I’ll be performing where artists including Primal Scream, Paloma Faith and Fun Lovin’ Criminals could be sitting with friends and family listening to me playing.

“At this stage I don’t know if I’m just background or if I’m performing directly to the artists.

“It will just be me with the piano – I’m not sure what artists will be there on the day but I’d love to perform in front of Fun Lovin’ Criminals. I used to listen to them all the time.”

A DunDee musician said he was “speechless” after discovering he is set to perform in front of some of the world’s biggest music stars.
