League title way to wire

- BY STEVE TAYLOR

IT’S winner takes all on Sunday when Dundee Comets play their final league fixture of the season against visitors Paisley Pirates.

With the Taysiders currently sitting two points ahead of the men from the west and just one point in front of Kirkcaldy Kestrels, Comets will be going all out to grab a victory in front of their home support and add another trophy to their cabinet after retaining their crown as SNL Play-Offs champions last weekend.

The previous meeting of the two clubs saw both sides share the spoils at Braehead back in December.

Comets had to fight back from 2-0 down and the league’s top scorer John Dolan and “import” Michal Beca drew them level before former Comet Adam Walker put the hosts ahead with less than 15 minutes remaining.

Adam McNicoll grabbed the all-important equaliser to tie the game at 3-3.

Coach Rab Brown said: “Paisley are a good side that are well organised and they will be a formidable opponent.

“We will need to show the same form we had during the play-offs finals to ensure our treble attempt stays on track.

“Last weekend’s endeavours have left the team nursing a few strains and sprains that will mean game-time decisions.

“However, I’m confident the depth of the squad should be enough to see us through.”

Face-off at Dundee Ice Arena is 7pm. Adult admission is £8, concessions £4 and U/12s free with each paying adult.

Paisley and Kirkcaldy are due to face-off against each other tomorrow evening and a victory for the Fifers will rule the west coasters out of the title race.

Pirates will again be Comets’ opposition in next Saturday’s Scottish Cup Finals weekend in Kirkcaldy.

Meanwhile, Dundee Michelin are in Scottish Recreational Cup action this weekend at the DIA.

The former cup holders, who were pipped to the silverware last year after losing 2-1 to Paisley Blackhawks in the final, play two Pool B games against Irvine Flyers tomorrow at 9am and Paisley Panthers (2.25pm).

On Sunday, the former UK Recce champions then take on Glenrothes Cougars (9.40am) and Edinburgh Knights (1.45pm).
