University and Rep in link-up
THE University of Dundee and Dundee Rep have launched an “exciting” new long-term collaboration to develop new performance opportunities for youngsters.
The junior performance programme will be the first of several initiatives between the Rep and the University’s school of life sciences, which will explore how the notions of art, science and community can work together.
It will take the form of an “intensive”, week-long summer holiday workshop, based out of the university and engaging up to 25 youngsters aged 13-18.
Participants will take par t i n science workshops, talks and demonstrations at university while also developing their theatre skills with the Rep’s creative l earning team.
At the end of the project, they will put on a performance inspired by their learning for family, friends and colleagues.
It is hoped in the longterm t hat similar programmes will continue into 2021.
Gemma Nicol, head of creative learning at Dundee Rep, said: “We’re really excited to be working in partnership with the University of Dundee’s school of life sciences and their team.
“The possibilities for creating new work inspired by the space, art and science are endless, and we can’t wait to get started this summer through our initial week-long residency alongside a group of Dundee young people.”
