Key for Utd to keep form flowing tonight

-

IT’S been a long time coming but Dundee United seem to actually be hitting a bit of form — and at the right time of the season, too.

It would be just like the Tangerines, though, to go and give Brechin their first victory of the campaign, however.

That would just sum up the whole season but it looks like they’re starting to build up a bit of momentum.

What has pleased me most was the performance against St Mirren last week.

If the players had shown that level of fight and aggression throughout the season they wouldn’t be finding themselves in the position they’re in.

That’s something St Mirren have been about all campaign and why they’ve won the league.

I’ve said for a long time now that if they can build some momentum heading towards the play-offs then they’ll give themselves a chance.

Winning — and keeping clean sheets — breeds confidence and suddenly you’re playing proper football and winning games.

Just a couple of weeks ago they were on a downward spiral it didn’t seem they could get out of.

That just shows how quickly fortunes can change.

It’s all about keeping it up now, getting a bit of consistency to their performances, and with them, results.

I honestly can’t remember the last time they won three games in a row.

It’s absolutely vital they keep the ball rolling and a game against Brechin is one they should be winning.

That’s with absolutely no disrespect to the Glebe Park side, managed by my old team-mate Darren Dods.

They’ll be desperate to get a win before the end of the campaign and I wouldn’t like to see them end with no wins.

As long as it’s not against United, I do hope they have a victory to cheer before the season is up.

After tonight’s game, the Tangerines have a couple of tough ones to make sure of their play-off place.

Queen of the South away and Livingston at home will be a good gauge for the team to find out if they can actually do anything in the play-offs.

If they can dominate those games, it’ll give them a huge mental boost — it’s a big if, though, this campaign.

The good thing is things are looking up at long last.
