Saints closing in on additions

-

ST JOHNSTONE manager Tommy Wright said the club are “making inroads” into tying players up on fresh deals.

He also intimated they were speaking to signing targets.

One of the players who won’t be at McDiarmid Park next season i s Heartsbound Steven MacLean but Tommy said: “He will continue to contribute to us for the remainder of this season.”

MacLean i s the Perth club’s only fit striker for the game against Dundee at Dens Park on Saturday.

Chris Kane, Denny Johnstone, Callum Hendry and David McMillan are all out injured as are defender Brian Easton and midfield men Stefan Scougall and Blair Alston.

Also out is suspended midfield player Murray Davidson.

Tommy added: “It seems like our bad l uck with injuries is never ending and both Denny and Chris have been ruled out f or t he remainder of the season.

“That means there will definitely be chances for our young strikers before the end of the season.

“Shaun Struthers is also out i njured but Jamie Docherty and John Robertson might get some game time in the next few weeks which will be good experience for them.

“I’ve been looking back at our injuries this season and we’ve had 17 long-term casualties this campaign that has led to a minimum of a five-six week lay-off for our players.

“Of those, 14 have been trauma injuries that have come during matches.

“We’re sometimes accused of being overly physical when the evidence suggests we’re actually on the wrong end.”

Saints face Hamilton tonight at McDiarmid Park in a Development League game (6pm).
