Big Dane fit and raring to go for Utd

A STOP-START time at Ross County was not what Thomas Mikkelsen expected after he moved there last summer but the Danish striker believes Dundee United could be about to reap the benefits of his early-season inactivity.

Fatigue at the end of a long, hard campaign could be a problem for some players if, as expected, the Tangerines are involved in next month’s Premiership play-offs.

But 28-year-old Mikkelsen believes he’ll be going into them fresh and in peak condition.

The man who scored the winner against Falkirk on Saturday and is expected to lead the attack at Brechin tonight admits it took time for him to get going after his loan move back to Tannadice from the Staggies i n mid-January.

Now he has, he’s looking forward to extending his good form deep into next month.

“When I first arrived back here, I had not played a game at Ross County for quite a long time, so it took me a while to get going,” said the Dane.

“Now I am feeling more and more fit with each game I play and I think it is good timing for me and the team that it’s coming now.

“I feel fit in the games and I am getting more confidence.

“The season is coming to the end but I do not feel tired. I feel fresh and that has to be a good thing — the play-off games will not be a problem for me physically.”

His match-winner against the Bairns was his first goal for six games and, while he is aiming for more personally and the team as a whole, right now Mikkelsen won’t be worried if the 1-0 margins of the past two outings continue.

“It’s good we have won the last two games. Again, on Saturday, we showed a lot of pride and fight for the team and I think that’s maybe why we have won the last two games.

“The wins are giving us more confidence also and that is pleasing. Against Falkirk we had some chances and could have won bigger.
