Longer hours at centres

RESIDENTS of Monifieth and Carnoustie are benefittin­g from longer opening hours at their local recycling centres until the end of September.

Angus Council has announced later Wednesday openings — from 3pm-7pm — at recycling centres in Carnoustie, Brechin, Forfar, Kirriemuir and Montrose.

From October 1, Wednesday opening will revert t o noon-4pm at these centres.

At Monifieth, the recycling centre is now open on Thursdays from 3pm-7pm.

That will also apply up until the end of September.

Thursday opening will then revert back to noon4pm from October 1.

Arbroath recycling centre continues to be operationa­l from 9.15am-4pm every day.

Angus residents who are seeking more informatio­n on the service can get full details on all the recycling centre opening times on the household waste and recycling section of the council website.

Emergency services were called to Spey Drive just after 5pm following reports of a disturbanc­e.

A large police presence could be seen as officers sealed off an area around a block of flats.

A large number of blood stains could also be seen on the pavement outside an address in Spey Drive this morning.

People living near t he scene of the disturbanc­e told the Tele that they had heard shouting and screaming.

Rob Brown, 57, said: “I heard a lot of raised voices coming from inside a block of flats.

“I then saw a woman come out on to the street followed by a small group of other people.

“There was a lot of shouting and screaming going on and the woman seemed to be bleeding from a head wound.

“Not long after, the police and an ambulance arrived.

“The woman was seen to by paramedics and put into the ambulance.

“I saw the police speaking to two men who also seemed to have been involved.”

Another woman said she heard banging and was then aware of police arriving in the street.

She said: “There seemed to have been a fight of some kind.

“I was aware that a woman had been taken away in an ambulance.

“Police sealed off the entry to the block of flats during the incident and were seen to be questionin­g neighbours and people who had been passing by.”

THREE people have been arrested after a woman was taken to hospital following an alleged fight in the Menzieshil­l area of Dundee last night.
