Attempted murder: two arrests

AN alleged attempted murder in Kirkcaldy prompted a major police operation involving a helicopter and incident units.

Two people have been arrested i n connection with the incident, which happened in the Gallatown area on Saturday.

Police swooped on Miller Street, near Fife Ice Arena, after an incident involving a 48-year-old man at around 4pm. Officers cordoned off an area of the street, and the car park of Rejects department store on St Clair Street was used as a base for police vehicles and ambulances.

Residents described hearing a helicopter circling overhead.

A police spokespers­on s a i d : “Po l i c e in Fife arrested a 35-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman in connection with the attempted murder of a 48-year-old man i n the Miller Street area of Kirkcaldy, which t ook place at around 4pm on Saturday.

“This incident resulted in a large police presence in the area.

“Inquiries are continuing and anyone with informatio­n is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 3009.

“Alternativ­ely, members of the public can contact Crimestopp­ers anonymousl­y on 0800 555111.”

The condition of the 48-year-old man was not disclosed.

A property on Miller Street remained cordoned off yesterday and was being guarded by t wo police officers.

The property backs on to the car park of Fife Ice Arena.

A source said the Rejects store was not affected by the incident and remained open while emergency services used the car park.
