Tayside charities in running for £15,000 windfall

TWO Tayside charities are in the running for a £15,000 windfall through a supermarke­t’s plastic bag initiative.

Positive Steps Dundee and Alyth Youth Partnershi­p i n Blairgowri­e are in line to potentiall­y win f unding t hrough Scotmid Co-operative’s Community Connect scheme.

Community Connect was launched in the North of Scotland last year and following dozens of applicatio­ns, three good cause groups were short-listed to benefit from funding generated via the sale of single use carrier bags.

The final outcome hinges on which group receives the most votes from Scotmid members at the AGM with registrati­on set to close today at 4pm.

Positive Steps and Alyth Youth Partnershi­p will receive a financial award of either £15,000, £7,500 or £2,500.

Positive Steps is a major agency dedicated to promoting the health, wellbeing and social lifestyles of vulnerable adults.

It works with individual­s who have a wide range of potential barriers to sustain independen­t living and are impacted by mental health, learning disabiliti­es, substance misuse, offending behaviour, homelessne­ss and poverty.

Alyth Youth Partnershi­p provide clubs and activities for local young people aged 9-25 in Alyth and the surroundin­g areas.

AYP manager George Annan said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be short-listed — it provides us with a great opportunit­y to engage with even more young people through exciting projects.”
