Major city road will be closed for two months
Dundee City Council and the Hillcrest Housing Association.
Stewart Shearer, Robertson Partnership Homes’ managing director, said: “The new affordable homes being built at Derby Street will make a significant difference to residents in Hilltown and we are pleased to be leading the project as main contractor.
“Construction work is now under way and we will be working closely with Dundee City Council and Hillcrest Housing Association throughout, as well as engaging with the local community.
“Once complete, we firmly believe Derby Street will be among the finest affordable housing projects ever seen in Scotland.”
The works represent the latest stage in the regeneration of the Hilltown area in recent years.
Bucklemaker and Butterburn courts were demolished in a controlled explosion in 2013 in order to make way for new developments.
They stood in the city for 40 years, having been handed over to the local authority by builders in 1973.
However, they soon followed the lead of Alexander Street, which had its Maxwelltown, Carnegie, Jamaica and Wellington flats demolished in 2011 to make way for new housing.
New homes have since been built on the sites of the Alexander Street multis, with the first tenants being given their keys in December, with other developments still ongoing.
