Cops swoop after Lochee incident

- BY ADAM HILL

POLICE swooped on a Dundee street after two buskers were rushed to hospital following an alleged attack in broad daylight — the second in a matter of days.

Witnesses described seeing up to eight police units descending on Lochee High Street amid reports two men had been assaulted by two others.

Officers detained two people at the scene of the incident and they were due to appear in court today.

The injured men are understood to have been taken to Ninewells Hospital by ambulance.

A police spokesman confirmed officers had been called to an incident.

He said: “Police Scotland can confirm that two men, aged 24 and 32, were arrested and charged with assault after an incident in Lochee High Street about 3.30pm yesterday.

“Both were kept in custody and are due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court today.”

Eyewitness Noreen McVicar told of seeing police cars and ambulances on the High Street — with “parents, kids and elderly people nearby”.

She said: “There were about eight police cars there and ambulances.

“Everyone was out on the street.

“It was shocking to see so many police on the High Street.

“You are hearing about things like this happening on Lochee High Street all the ti me nowadays.

“What is going on? Lochee is better than this.”

Noreen said she saw police taking two men into custody in the aftermath — and also two “buskers” being taken away by paramedics in an ambulance.

The alleged assault happened just two days after police detained a man on suspicion of leaving a 78-year-old male “bloodied” and battered.

It is understood the latest incident took place just yards from the previous reported attack.

The Tele previously revealed that police officers were called to Lochee High Street on Sunday amid reports that a pensioner had been attacked.

Police detained a 35-year-old man a short time later in relation to the alleged assault.

He was charged by investigating officers before being released from custody.

The 78-year-old man is said to have sustained cuts to the face.
