Charity devastated

Vacuum cleaner stolen as thieves smash way in

- BY LINDSEY HAMILTON

HEARTLESS thieves smashed their way into an independent Dundee charity and got clean away with its brand new vacuum.

Mike Cordiner, of the Eagles Wings Trust, said today that organisers of the charity for the homeless were devastated by the break-in and theft.

He said: “This is not something I thought I would ever have to say but we were broken into and there is damage to the front doors.

“Thankfully, all that was taken was the vacuum cleaner we had only just bought.

“We are devastated to think that someone decided to help themselves to something that was tucked away, that folk had given generously for us to afford.

“We are working with the police at this time.”

Mike said the break-in was discovered by the trust’s landlord at its premises in Douglas Street.

He added: “He contacted me and I went along to see the damage.

“To start with I didn’t think anything had been taken but then I realised our new cleaner had gone.

“I have no idea why anyone would take it. Nothing else was taken and apart from the broken glass on the doors, no other damage or mess was caused.”

Mike said the doors were still lockable but the glass panels would have to be replaced.

“I hope the police will get to the bottom of this and we get our vacuum cleaner back,” he added.

“It’s horrible to think that someone would break in and steal something from a charity.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland is investigating a theft which happened at a charity’s premises in Douglas Street, Dundee, between 2.45pm-3.15pm on Friday April 20.

‘‘Entry was gained to the building, and items were stolen.

‘‘If you have any information about this incident, please call 101. Our reference is CR/9337/18.’’

Eagles Wings Trust moved into its new premises in January.
